The DC insulation resistance test is carried out between live and earthed parts. The test voltage is generally stabilized 500V DC (other voltages on request), and generally not performed between the windings.

A test to evaluate the quality of the insulators
The resistance presented by the DUT under test is measured at the application points and is compared with a minimum value that can be set by the machine software (usually in the order of MΩ). The DC insulation resistance test is complementary to the dielectric strength test, since the insulation test is used to check the quality of all the insulators, the presence of any humidity and pollution, while the rigidity checks the tightness of these insulators, and, therefore, the thicknesses and distances between live parts.
